President-elect Donald Trump wants to turn the lights out on daylight saving time. In a post on his social media site Friday, Trump said his party would try to end the practice when he returns to office. Daylight saving time was first adopted as a wartime measure in 1942.

Many US states change their clocks twice a year but there are strong views about the policy and whether it should continue.

The President-elect proposed an end to the practice established by Benjamin Franklin in 1784.

The United States is one of the only countries in the world where people change their clocks twice per year.
